Volunteering

The Kennebec Valley Humane Society needs volunteers on a daily basis to assist with a variety of tasks. KVHS would not exist without the help of our generous and dedicated volunteers. Can you picture yourself walking dogs? Socializing with a cat? Maybe dishes and laundry is your cup of tea? Maybe you’d like to assist in fundraising or our special events? We might have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

If you are interested in volunteering from home, or even from the classroom, please check out our Help From Home Guide! This guide provides fun, interactive ways to help enrich the lives of our shelter animals.

Volunteer Requirements

  • You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer
  • Volunteers 12-15 years of age may volunteer as a team with a parent/guardian
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 volunteer shifts a month
  • Complete a two-part volunteer onboarding process (orientation and training)

Community Service

KVHS provides opportunities to those required to perform community service hours required by court, DHHS and/or schools.

Please be advised that we do not accept all requests to perform community service work at KVHS. There are circumstances where the nature of the offense will lead to automatic denial of a request. Please contact the volunteer coordinator for more information.

Humane Education and Outreach

picture-001KVHS offers humane educational tours and presentations for your school group, church group, or civic organization. All humane education tours and presentations are age-specific and conducted by KVHS staff. Presentations can be made at KVHS or at your location.
